They cost a little bit more, but over time, the payback reaches in some cases into the millions of dollars, since they require less cleaning and can be more easily restored to their original performance in-situ. Fine bubble diffusers spend most of their life in wastewater, not in clean water, so the diffuser that keeps the closest to its original performance the longest in that environment is usually the best choice.
