Water is the main ingredient in carbonated beverage production. In addition, water is used for washing and cleaning bottles and equipment. In fact, the soft drink industry uses more than 12 billion gallons of water for production annually. Therefore, this puts water consumption and treatment at the highest cost factor in the industry.
Ingredients in soft drinks vary. This includes carbon dioxide, caffeine, sweeteners, acids, aromatic substances, and of course mostly water. Therefore, soft drink wastewater consists of this wasted soft drink, the water from sanitation, which includes cleansers, and lubricants from machinery used in the production process. Thus, pollutants present in wastewater include suspended solids, BOD, COD, nitrates, phosphates, sodium and potassium.
A priority in the industry is lowering costs for water supply and wastewater treatment and management. Upgrades to existing plants are possible with the add-on of a diffused aeration system. This greatly increases the volume of production capacity by increasing the wastewater treatment efficiency. This can be added on through a retrievable system or through the installation of a fixed aeration system. Whichever solution, SSI can help!

SSI offers advanced membrane materials. This includes our patented PTFE coated EPDM membranes. PTFE coated membranes have several advantages. This includes a lower rate of plasticizer migration than uncoated membranes, less stretching at the slits and across the membrane. reduced rates of fouling, resistance to industrial chemicals, and can be turned on and off regularly without immediate increase in back pressure. In addition, PTFE membranes have a longer lifespan, and reduce the need for maintenance. This comes in particular importance when draining the tank is not an option for long periods between maintenance.
